TWO people were injured when a plane crashed into a garden wall at
Netherthorpe airfield on Wednesday.
The light aircraft got into difficulties during take-off just after 3pm and
collided into the wall, leaving the pilot and passenger injured.
Two males, both believed to be from outside the area, were trapped in their
seats as fire crews from Worksop and Retford were called, along with police
and ambulances.
Once the fire and rescue workers had cut the men free, the passenger was
airlifted to Chesterfield Hospital with a broken foot and facial lacerations,
while the pilot was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital suffering from chest injuries.
Yesterday, police confirmed they were both in a 'stable' condition.
Airfield officials revealed the crash would spark an investigation.
"We can confirm there was an incident here yesterday and that two people were
injured," said a spokesman for the airfield.
"The aircraft will now be subjected to an accident investigation."
An occupant of the house said she had nothing to say about the plane crash,
but said she was at work when it happened.
A spokesman for the Notts and Lincs Air Ambulance confirmed they were called
to Netherthorpe and airlifted the passenger to hospital.
"We were called to the scene at 3.06pm and found that a plane had failed to
take off properly," said the spokesman.
"The 64-year-old male passenger was suffering multiple injuries and was air
lifted to Chesterfield Royal Hospital – the journey took six minutes."
