T12P2 AT A RECENT INCIDENT
Retford Fire Station is situated in the centre of the market town of Retford in North Nottinghamshire. It is one of 25 stations giving fire cover to the residents of Nottinghamshire. Retford has a population of approx. 21,000, the station is manned 24hrs a day by fire-fighters on the whole-time duty system, supplemented by a crew of fire-fighters on the retained duty system, on call 24hrs a day, who respond to the station by pager from home. This site is about the retained duty section at Retford.
The present station was opened in 1966 having moved from the building next door, it has two rescue pumps, Scania (FJ56 FJY) & Dennis Sabre (S374 ATO). The station attends 700-800 shouts a year (retained approx. 200 of them), in the station ground are two power stations, east coast mainline railway, two secure institutions, A1 trunk road and a section of the River Trent. As well as this we have the usual residential and rural risks etc.
